Play Ball! Wilshire Riverside Little League Support
We're excited to see our team working together in the ballfield learning how to play the game. Spending a summer night in the park watching a big game is AWESOME! Thank you to all the Coaches, Moms, Dads, and everyone who is there to support these young ballplayers. We love being a part of the Wilshire Riverside Little League!
Go Sky Piranhas Robotics Team!
Building robots and life skills!
We are happy to support the Sky Piranhas robotics team! Several of our patients are members of this team that builds robots to compete at events. The Sky Piranhas are part of the "FIRST" (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) program. This program helps students learn engineering and design skills, along with leadership and communication basics. We love that the goal of this program is to give students a hands-on experience working with real engineers, so scientists and engineers can be seen as role models just like professional athletes. Awesome!
Kelly Elementary Basketball
Hustle and Heart!
The Kelly Elementary School basketball teams played their first season this winter! They showed hustle and heart and great teamwork. Awesome special events arranged by "Coach D." included clinics put on by professional basketball coach Tom Newell. We are proud to sponsor the Kelly Elementary 3rd grade boys and girls basketball teams and share in the excitement as these new basketball stars take it to the net!
Beaumont Jazz Band
Braces by Dr. Joe and Dr. Rensch believe music is important. We are thankful to be able to help support the Beaumont Middle School Jazz Band. Every year the 7th and 8th grade bands combine and march in the Hollywood Veterans Day Parade through the neighborhood. Longtime band director, Cynthia Plank does an amazing job bringing music into the lives of Beaumont students and into the neighborhood on parade days!
Run for Sabin School
Run, Sabin School, Run!
The students at Sabin School did an AWESOME job at the 2nd Annual Run for Sabin School. Braces by Dr. Joe and Dr. Rensch challenged the students by offering a donation for every student who created a "Walkstarter" account to help raise funds for the school, and by offering to sponsor a pizza party for the winning class. In a matter of days, nearly 200 students had created accounts! Every dollar raised supported the success of all Sabin students. The run was held on a gorgeous day in October and smiles were everywhere. What an excellent event!
Thank you Sabin School for allowing Braces by Dr. Joe andDr. Rensch to participate in the Run for Sabin School.
Batty Book Drive
In October patients brought in books to donate to the Children's Book Bank, a local non-profit that distributes gently used books to kids in the area with no books at home. Patients wrote the name of their favorite book on a bat and let it "fly" it on our purple wall. Donating books, earned patients extra *Bling, and a chance to enter into a drawing for a $100 Amazon Gift Card. The book drive was a lot of fun and helped many local kids. We are grateful for our awesome patients!
You can learn more about the Children's Book Bank at www.childrensbookbank.org. The quote below is from Jamie Ofstad, Development Manager for the Children's Book Bank.
"Your gift is making a difference for children in our community who are receiving books that encourage their imaginations to blossom; building curiosity and excitement for learning, and creating wonderful opportunities for special bonding time between parent and child. Thank you!"
Over 200 books were collected during the Book Drive.
All sorts of fun early childhood books were collected including books by Dr. Seuss.

2017 Jogathon at The Madeleine School
Run for the money! We were so happy to provide “Challenge Grants” for the 2017 Madeleine School Jogathon. The 4th graders won the “Highest Participation” challenge and the 7th graders won the “Funding Frontrunner” challenge, (raised the most money in a single class.) It was a super fun day, perfect for running. We handed out 360 popsicles in less than 2 hours.
Overall $46,000 was raised by this fun event. Thank you to The Madeleine School for allowing Braces by Dr. Joe and Dr. Rensch to be a part of this fun day.
NEU PDX & Braces by Dr. Joe Partnership 2015
We are proud to announce the partnership between Braces by Dr. Joe and the Northeast United Soccer Club. In continued tradition, Dr. Joe and his team are excited to support another great local organization. NEU PDX has continued to become among the most consistently successful and accessible soccer institutions in Oregon and we are thrilled to help support their commitment to reaching the highest standards in our region for fields and coaching. The jersey sponsorship, in part, enables NEU PDX to fund the nearly $30,000 a year to families that would otherwise not be able to participate in their programs. It's just a great fit as we, at Dr. Joe's, believe that healthy kids start with healthy communities and NEU PDX would like to help get as many kids out there enjoying the game!
“There is no better community than NE Portland! This is where I live, work and raise my kids. For 15 years, we’ve been building beautiful neighborhood smiles- nothing gives me more pleasure than supporting our local youth, coaches and organizers, ensuring a healthy fit future generation of NE kiddos. Now let’s roll up our sleeves and score some goals- see ya on the pitch!” -Dr. Joe

“Play Hard and Have Fun!” – GYB
Dr. Joe has been a proud sponsor of Grant Youth Basketball since 2010.
Grant Youth Basketball (formerly the Laurelhurst Basketball Club) is a non-profit organization, committed to providing opportunities for boys and girls in the Grant Community to develop basketball skills in a sportsmanship-first environment. Founded by Coach Bernadette Diepenbrock, GYB follows her philosophy to "play hard and have fun!" This is a philosophy we embrace here at Braces by Dr. Joe!
Starting out as a league of 40 players in 2009, GYB has grown to serve hundred of kids each year through it's co-ed summer league (grades 5-8), skills clinics, and the Jr. Generals program (grades K - 4).
Dr. Joe has been GYB's longest standing and most loyal sponsor. Through his generous support (and the support of other locally owned businesses) GYB is able to offer fee assistance to students in need, so that GYB has never had to turn a player away from it's programs. GYB also provides much needed support to the Men's and Women's Basketball programs at Grant High School.
